Our technology
We chose the best components available to make our kits.
Motors
the nano motor
Our famous nano motor is pretty much unique in the world of e-bikes - it uses a set of planetary rollers instead of the nylon cogs used by most of the other motors out there. This makes the motor exceptionally quiet, and has a best-in-class freewheel, giving very little extra resistance when not using the power assistance.
Our nano motor also gives an exceptional amount of peak power (useful because this provides the grunt for climbing hills), from a very small and discrete package, it only adds 2Kg to the weight of the bike when fitted.
We carry a range of motors with different designed rotational speed for different sized wheels, to ensure that all our kits comply with the maximum legal speed for e-bikes of 15mph. Our standard motors require a width of 100mm between the fork cutouts, but we have a special 80mm motor especially for Brompton and other small wheeled, narrow-fork bicycles.

Batteries
Low weight, high capacity
We have two different batteries for each of our kits, these use state of the art Lithium Polymer battery technology coupled with our own Battery Management Board (BMS), which controls the rates of discharge to ensure the battery is protected and the life maximised, and also manages the charging cycle to ensure that the battery stays in good condition.
As with all battery technologies - the batteries do degrade slightly over time, but our batteries have been chosen to give the best possible compromise between range, weight and size and expected battery life. All of our batteries should keep going for thousands of miles of cycling assistance
We use different batteries for Brompton and for other bikes. The Brompton battery is a great size to fit snugly into the Brompton front luggage, the battery for other bikes comes in a case that fits behind the seat post under the saddle.

Controls and connectors
Simple, high-quality components
We supply a choice of throttle - either a twist grip or thumb throttle, or a pedelec option which switches the motor in when you are pedalling - as required by the pedelec laws in Europe. We supply a pair of replacement brake levers which switch the power to the motor as soon as they are activated, so that the motor is not running when you want to brake
We use high quality, specialised e-bike throttles and brakes from Wuxing, the largest manufacturer in the world, we carry a range of different shapes and sizes to fit in with a wide range of bikes.
We use a range of specialised connectors to ensure that our electronics are reliable, including waterproof connectors wherever they are exposed to the elements.
